The Ashmore Bicycle Safety Centre has been in operation since 1991. In 1997, the Ashmore PCYC entered collaboration with the Gold Coast City Council to maintain the service in which the ‘Bike Centre’ provides to the community. Many Schools and Children have enjoyed this facility, through a structured learning program with the centre exceeding 5000 attendances each year.
Throughout the school term, the ‘Bike Centre’ conducts Road and Bicycle Safety Courses for Grade Four students across the Gold Coast to help raise awareness of traffic and road conditions, safety techniques and safe bike handling skills. The students participate in a variety of practical and theory based activities that cover many different aspects of road and bicycle safety.
During 2011, the Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association (PCYC) formed a partnership with AustCycle as a licensed provider for Cycle Training. AustCycle is Australia's national provider for accredited cycling training.
