The Ashmore PCYC was established in 1983 under the affiliation of the Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association. Today it is a multi-faciltiy including the Ashmoe Bicycle Safety Centre, This gave the community of Ashmore and neighbouring suburbs the opportunity to actively participate in affordable educational, sporting, recreational and cultural activities.
QPCYWA is Queensland's largest provider of recreational facilities and activities for young people. All PCYC's are registered charities and are largely self-funded relying on income from activity attendance, fund-raising, government grants, subsidies and community support. The QPCYWA has continued to meet the needs of young people by expanding focus into other areas of youth development. The current mission statement of the association reads;

Sergeant Craig Green Branch Manager PCYC Ashmore |
Sergeant Craig Green has been in the Police Service since 1988. He joined the Ashmore PCYC a number of years ago, and since then has made a considerable difference in the activities that are now available to the local community. "We are very excited about the new Fitness building extension to the Ashmore PCYC. It will open up more opportunities for our youth to develope their future and assist in forging a positive and healthy attitude towards life". |
The Police-Citizens Youth Club is, in many cases the first experience Queensland children have with organised sport and active recreational participation. All activities offered by the Ashmore PCYC can be undertaken from beginner level, with a focus on skill and motor development, increased participation, and personal enjoyment through interaction with other children and progress within the chosen program. Members from low-income and socio-economically disadvantaged families participate in a wide range of sports, and take part in teams and competitions. Without the existence of the PCYC, many young people would not have a chance to participate in sporting activities, due to high membership costs, registration and participation fees in other establishments. The Ashmore PCYC operates under the umbrella of the Queensland Police - Citizen Youth Welfare Association (QPCYWA) Corporate Plan 2006-2009, and implements the Association's objectives through its Strategic Development Plan. In particular, the Ashmore PCYC has set a series of goals to align with the QPCYWA vision of improving communities through youth
development.
A Branch Manager who is a Police Sergeant, and a Management Committee individually controls PCYC branches internally with strict guidelines in relation to overall management issues and expenditure. The Police Citizens Youth Clubs throughout Queensland benefit enormously from a large pool of volunteers who enable the branches to offer a diverse and challenging range of programs.
Ashmore PCYC has hosted numerous community events and developed strong working relationships with key organisations within our community. Our Youth Club enjoys a strong partnership with the Gold Coast City Council, through this relationship many successful events have been co-ordinated between the two organisations.
Perhaps one of our most creditable relationships with a community group is the partnership forged between Keebra Park High School and our organisation. Keebra Park High School has developed an alternative education program which assists up to 25 students who are out of the mainstream schooling system. This program enables
12 to 14yrs old students who have been suspended or expelled from school to continue with their education. In many cases these student have exhausted every opportunity available to them to continue with their education, effectively identifying this program as being their last hope.
